Canada x Reader- No More ''Tough Guys''

Matthew Williams (more commonly referred to as Canada, when he was referred to at all) was used to being ignored. After all, near everyone looked straight through him, preferring to see and talk to everyone else. The ragtag Nordics, with their hilarious familial relations. The Axis, in all of its mismatched tsundere glory. The self-proclaimed Awesome Trio, made up of America, Prussia, and Denmark.

Especially the Awesome Trio.

Now, being used to something typically constitutes being okay with it. Near everyone who bothered to notice Matt thought this was true. After all, they didn't listen long enough to find out otherwise. Luckily for Canada, there was one person who did stick around to hear him out. Of course it was her.

[Name]. How could Matt not have fallen in love with the [h/c]-haired, [e/c]-eyed girl who had been his only real friend for so many years? It wasn't just that she always let him vent, always commiserated - although that was a part of it. It was how she carried herself, how she laughed, how she interacted with everyone around her. And how, without fail, she always shut down the stupid - excuse me, awesome - trio of countries' attempts at hitting on her.

And now they were at it again. Matthew watched from his place a few feet away as the aforementioned trio sidled up to [Name], identical smirks on their faces.

"What on Earth do you idiots want?" Matt grinned. She would put them in their places, of course.

Denmark spoke first. "It's time to choose which one of us you're gonna go out with. We've been eyeing you for awhile, [Name], and-"

Here, he was cut off by America. "-we think you're frickin' hot! So, who's it gonna be? The Hero?"

"The awesome me?" Prussia.

"Or the best of them all?" Denmark. [Name] looked at them all incredulously, but they showed no signs of joking. It infuriated her how they thought they could get any girl with just a few corny lines. But that was less important right then than finding a way out. Those three were unrelenting once they set their sights on someone.

And that's when [Name] spotted her best friend, waiting just a few feet away.

"Sorry, guys. I'd love to, really." Her voice positively dripped with sarcasm. "But actually, I'm with Matthew!" [Name] slung an arm around her Canadian friend and hissed into his ear, "Play along."

Matt took a second to recover from the shock, even though he only had to be a pretend boyfriend. But he was gonna be the best pretend boyfriend ever. "It's true. We've been together for awhile now."

[Name] grinned and couldn't resist the chance to throw one final dart at the deflating Awesome Trio. "Yeah, I've kinda got a thing for sensitive guys. Bye-bye, now."

Matthew couldn't help but giggle as the trio slunk off, tails metaphorically between their legs. [Name] turned to him, beaming.

"Thank you so much, Mattie! I just needed to get them off my back, and... oh, you're the best." She hugged him, sending the Canadian into a fit of blushing. And that's when he realized something: he could ask her out, right then and there. It evidently wouldn't be much of a stretch. Matt took a deep breath, and...

Stuttered his way through the lamest version of asking someone out in history.

"Uh, so... w-we should probably, um, do some actual b-boyfriend/girlfriend things... or something... if they think you're lying... if that's o-okay?"

[Name] raised an eyebrow before cracking up. Finally, she managed to settle down. "Mattie. Are you asking me out?" Matthew couldn't do anything but nod, his face somehow going redder. However, [Name] didn't laugh again. She cast a pondering look at her longtime friend, before breaking into a grin and - much to Matthew's delight - kissing him on the cheek.

"I'd be delighted."

Matt could hardly believe it. Maybe not being someone like those Awesome Trio guys was worth it.

And, looking at [Name], he nodded to himself. Of course it was.
